Frontend Developer

What we're looking for

Ether is hiring a new Frontend Developer to join our team to help us deliver and maintain projects of all shapes and sizes.

We're looking for someone with at least 3 years of agency or in-house development experience, well versed in frontend technologies generally, but more specifically in React. Most of the existing projects you'll be working on are built with Craft CMS on the backend, so experience of Twig will help greatly, too. More broadly, you should have experience with Docker, Ubuntu, Nginx and Git. A number of our newer Craft CMS builds use GraphQL, so prior experience with that is helpful, but not essential.

A number of our projects also integrate deeply with third-party services like Stripe, DocuSign and Euroland so familiarity and experience with APIs of all standards will be useful.

You might have a computer science or engineering degree. You might not. That's not what we're looking for. We care about what you can do and how you do it, not about how you got here. A strong track record of conscientious, thoughtful work speaks volumes.

We value managers of one. We appreciate people who can bring strong opinions, but move with the team even when they disagree. We subject ideas to rigorous consideration and challenge each other, but all remember that we're here for the same purpose: to do good work together. That comes with direct feedback, openness to each others' experience, and willingness to show up for each other as well as for the technical work at hand. We're in this for the long term.

The kind of work you'll be doing

You’ll be tasked with working with the rest of the team and solo on both larger and smaller projects; these will include both React-driven web apps and rich, interactive CMS-integrated websites (React or Twig depending on the project).

You'll also support the rest of the team with maintaining existing client sites, web apps and possibly mobile apps, depending on experience.

We work heavily in the life sciences and biotech space working on elevating the digital experiences in this cutting-edge sector (examples include Verona Pharma, SV Health Investors and Enara Bio). We also work closely with pre-seed startups, helping them get their idea from the back of a napkin to fully-fledged product (examples include TrainMyAthlete, Moxi Health and our work for Kent FA).

Where you'll be based

We're ideally looking for someone in the South East of England where our studio is based, although we're open to remote applicants, too. If you do happen to be local, we're happy with setting up working from home. For remote applicants, we're specifically looking for someone in the United Kingdom.

Ether Creative is an equal opportunities employer.

What it's like working at Ether

We have a collaborative culture and a very flat management structure—we’re a small agency where working together and supporting one another is key to our success.

You’ll be given autonomy to make your own decisions on projects both big and small. You’re expected to bring knowledge and recommendations to clients and in support of the rest of the team. Push back when you have to and when in service of the end product. Be inquisitive and always ready to learn something new.

We're tech-focused and love to share and work on new technical solutions to our and our clients' problems. We work quickly and in the open, opting to get something out there into the wild as soon as possible, rather than fiddle for weeks.
